You could "fry an egg on asphalt," or ask if it's hot enough for someone. Whichever cliche you choose, it is certainly out there.
We caught up with a few people in East Peoria who left home to stay cool and some others who made sacrifices to suffer through the heat.
While some were out finding ways to escape the blistering, sweaty, sticky affects of our star, others were basking in its life-giving glory.
"I love it. It's awesome," says Deb Guppy, owner of Bob's Dairy Dream in East Peoria.
In her line of work, a sunny Sunday is a very good thing.
"The hot weather always brings people out on a Sunday for ice cream or anything cold," Guppy says.
Business is up at Bob's, but who would dare leave the home for a simple treat on a day like this?
A lot of people, according to Guppy.
"It's been pretty steady today," she says. "About 45 minutes ago we had the Morton baseball team out here."
And just down the street, Fondulac Park District softball players were finding ways to stay safe.
"Stay in the shade and bring water. Leave the kids at home," says Nick Sturgis who plays for G&D out of Morton.
He's heard the warnings of dehydration and heat stroke, but that's not keeping him home with the kids.
"No, this is what I do. I love playing softball."
