EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- Construction on the new Fondulac District Library in East Peoria is moving along.

On Wednesday about 25,000 new books and items were delivered to the new building. This will add to the existing collection of about 60,000 items from the old building.

Library Director Amy Falasz-Peterson said it is all thanks to a tax referendum.

"When we passed the bond referendum in 2009, we were able to furnish and equip. We were able to, with some of that money, increase our collection," Falasz-Peterson said. "Since we were tripling, almost tripling, our building size we had more shelving space and we were able to add more things to our collections, new best sellers, areas where we might have had gaps in our collection we were able to fill those."

The new library will feature a drive-up window, a young adult area, a larger kids area, and more reading areas.

The old Fon Du Lac Library building is closed during the move. Staff members are planning a grand re-opening celebration for Saturday, November 2.
