EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- A high school reunion in East Peoria Saturday night turned deadly when a man walked into a crowded bar and shot a woman and man at point blank range.
Within seconds, an off-duty law enforcement officer at the scene jumped into action, firing his weapon, killing the suspect.
According to the Peoria County coroner, the female victim is Lori A. Moore, 33, of Morton, Ill. She was pronounced dead at OSF St. Francis Medical Center at 9:16 p.m. Saturday.
The male victim is Lance E. Griffel, 36, of Peoria, Ill. He was pronounced dead at OSF St. Francis Hospital at 9:39 p.m. Saturday.
Both victims were shot in the head, according to the coroner.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. at The Fifth Quarter Sports Bar and Pizzeria, located on North Main Street, across from the Par-a-dice Hotel and Casino.
East Peoria Police Chief Dick Ganschow says the slaying is domestic violence related, identifying the deceased suspect as the ex-husband of Moore.
According to court records, Moore filed for divorce from Jason A. Moore in March of 2013. It was finalized in May of 2013.
Witnesses say East Peoria Community High School Class of 1999 was holding its class reunion at the bar at the time of the shooting. Beyond the 3 individuals who were shot and killed, no other injuries were reported.
Numerous law enforcement agencies responded to the initial call of shots fired including East Peoria Police, Fondulac Park District Police, Creve Couer Police, Tazewell County Sheriff's Department and Illinois State Police.
Chief Ganschow said because this was a law enforcement officer involved shooting, Illinois State Police would be taking the lead in the investigation.
Chief Ganschow declined to identify the officer and agency involved in the shooting, citing an ongoing investigation. Special Agents from the FBI were also on the scene Saturday night.
