SORRENTO, Fla. -- Three Central Illinois men camping in Lake County, Florida were killed in a two vehicle crash Wednesday.

While the accident remains under investigation, Florida Highway Patrol Troopers say speed may have played a factor in the crash.

Police say 44-year old Ronald Horton of Camp Grove was traveling northbound when he lost control of his Ford Mustang, hitting an oncoming pickup truck.

Horton was thrown from the vehicle.

He and his passengers, 36-year old Michael Sievert of Rome, and 28 year old Drew Bannister of Chillicothe were pronounced dead on the scene.

Troopers say none of the men were wearing seatbelts.

Horton was convicted of reckless homicide in a June 1998 crash that killed his cousin. He was released from prison in 2003.

The driver of the pickup was not injured in the crash.
