PEORIA, Ill. -- There were three motor vehicle thefts around the city Sunday night.
The first happened in the 3600 block of W. Marengo Drive around 6:40 p.m. The victim said his vehicle was stolen out of the parking lot of his apartment complex.
The victim had been in his car earlier in the day to get some CDs. He forgot his car keys on the driver's seat when he got into a friend's car and left the area.
When the victim returned to his home later in the evening, his mother said she heard what she thought was the sound of his car starting outside.
She recognized the sound of her son's car because it has a loud exhaust sound when the car starts. As the victim looked out the window to where his vehicle was parked, he saw it leaving the parking lot.
He did not get a clear view of who was driving the car away.
Between 7 and 7:40 p.m., an unknown suspect stole a vehicle from the 800 block of E. Gift Avenue.
The car owner noted that the car had a flat tire and has a tendency to stop suddenly in traffic.
The third motor vehicle theft of the evening occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of of W. Widenham Street.
The victim was picking up mail at a residence on W. Widenham Street and had left the car running outside with the keys in the ignition. The victim said he was inside the home for around 2 minutes, and when he returned, the vehicle was gone.
Officers located the stolen vehicle in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue.
The victim noted that numerous CDs were missing from the car.
