WASHINGTON, Ill. -- Dozens of tornado victims at Thursday night's meeting received a special gift, a free $500 gift card.

The cards were donated to the Salvation Army by a local company, MH Equipment.

Those who received the cards said this gracious gesture will go a long way.

"People don't realize what this means to someone who didn't have anything," said Washington resident, Esther Miller. "You just walked out with the clothes on your back. You come back after 54 years of stuff, and your house is just gone."

"For people to just continue pouring the support into Washington is humbling," said Washington resident, Kirk Johnson. "It is a humbling experience."

Those who did not get a gift card Thursday night wrote down their information and will get one in the coming days.
