TOULON, Ill -- A Toulon woman pleaded not guilty in Stark County court Friday to charges that she abandoned her then three week old daughter along the side of the road in late September.

Kendra Meaker, 19, is accused of dumping the infant, Mia Grace Thompson, in a ditch on a rural road near Toulon and then claiming to authorities the child was kidnapped at the post office. Mia was later found alive.

It was determined in court that Meaker is fit to stand trial. This comes two weeks after a psychologist Dr. John Day released a report to the court with the same claim.

Meaker is next due in court for a pre-trial hearing on January 11.
Her family held a prayer service outside the courthouse before today's hearing.
