METAMORA, Ill. -- Some local state troopers have given up shaving to help raise money for charity.

For the second year in the row, Illinois State Police troopers in District 8 are participating in a mustache contest.

Each participating trooper paid to get into the contest and has to go the entire month without shaving. Any trooper who shaves early has to pay a penalty.

At the end of the month, one trooper will be awarded the honor of having the best mustache.

Money raised from the contest will go towards the Great Oaks Community Church to help fund its weekend snack program.

Last year the troopers raised $530 for the program which provides a sack lunch for children of families in need. The food is sent home with the children every Friday.

Donations can be made at the ISP District 8 Headquarters, 1265 Lourdes Rd. in Metamora, and by contacting Trooper Dustin Pierce at Dustin_Pierce@isp.state.il.us.
