Two Peoria police officers placed on paid leave

PEORIA, Ill -- The Peoria police chief has now placed two officers on paid administrative leave as a result of an late night car accident several weeks ago.

A police union representative confirms the officer's identities as Vice Unit Ofc. John Couve and Sgt. Richard Glover.

The chief would not confirms the officers names.

He did say the disciplinary action taken against two officers is as a result of a late-night crash of an unmarked police car driven by Officer Couve, while off duty, nearly two weeks ago.

He then allegedly reported the car stolen.

Settingsgaard previously said the officer may have been involved in criminal conduct.

At this point the role of Sergeant Glover is unclear.

Illinois State Police are investigating the matter.
