SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Two McLean County residents are dead after a motorcycle crash near Springfield Sunday.

According to the Sangamon County Coroner, the accident happened at approximately 2:30 Sunday afternoon on northbound Interstate 55.

The driver, 48-year-old Mitchell Bledsoe from Normal, was pronounced dead at the scene.

35-year-old Karla Blake of Colfax, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was taken to Memorial Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m. Sunday.

State police say traffic was slowing for a crash a mile ahead when Bledsoe lost control of the motorcycle and slid onto the left shoulder.

Autopsy results show the preliminary cause of death for Bledsoe and Blake were multiple blunt force injuries. Blood tests are still pending.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
