BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – A Bloomington man will appear in McLean County court Wednesday in connection with a house fire.

Josh Hoeniges, 25, is in police custody, facing charges of Aggravated Arson and Attempted Murder.

Bloomington firefighters were called to a home at 1210 Walnut Street just before 2 a.m. Tuesday.

They said the fire started on two couches in the living room.

Police officers were helping people trapped inside escape the fire when firefighters arrived.

"When they got here it was a little chaotic with people coming out of the windows," said Bloomington Deputy Fire Chief Les Siron. "The police officers were doing CPR on one of the victims, and they still had the fire to worry about."

Firefighters used arson dogs to check for accelerants inside the home.

One person was seriously injured and remains in the hospital.

Hoeniges was also taken to the hospital but later transferred to the McLean County Jail.
