A boat on the Illinois River near the downtown area burned Tuesday evening, and two people on board had to jump off the craft to save themselves.
Crowds gathered for a pre-July 4th concert tonight got a front row seat for the river rescue and Peoria fire crews handling the burning boat.
Dark smoke from the burning boat could be easily seen from some distance away.
The Coast Guard halted barge traffic on the river while the fire was being fought.
The boat has now been towed to Detweiller Marina. The names of the boat's occupants are unknown at this hour, nor is the cause of the fire on board.
