U of I student dies after being hit by truck

URBANA, Ill. -- A University of Illinois student has died after being hit by a truck on the U of I campus on Wednesday.

The victim has being identified as Mimi Liu , 20, of Chicago.

Liu was a junior studying in the school's College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.

A second victim, a female, was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the truck, Willie Craft, 58, was charged with driving without insurance and improper lane usage. Additional charges are possible.

According to investigators, Craft’s truck left the road several times and drove across a sidewalk. Police said he hit several street signs and sideswiped a car before jumping a curb and hitting the two women.
