PEORIA, Ill. -- It might be cold and frozen outside, but farmers are already preparing for the next growing season. On Wednesday, the Peoria County Farm Bureau hosted a crop insurance information meeting.
The meeting outlined options farmers had for crop insurance this year, and explained changes made from last year.
Along with information on crop insurance, the group also talked about lessons they learned from last year's drought and the potential impact it could have on this year's crop.
"If we do have one more year of severe drought, if we don't catch up and don't get the timely rains that we need, we're going to see a much bigger impact, I think world wide, on available grain stocks," said Doug Yoder, Senior Director of Marketing and Affiliate Management.
Illinois farmers have until March 15 to sign up for federal crop insurance.
