CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Illinois Department of Employment Security announced Friday that local unemployment rates fell in nine of 12 metro areas.
Bloomington-Normal's unemployment rate dropped from 6.9 percent in December of 2011 to 6.3 percent in December 2012.
Unemployment rose slightly in the Peoria area, going from an 8.2 percent rate in 2011 to an 8.3 percent rate in 2012.
The Peoria metro area was reported to have lost 3,000 non-farm jobs from theat time last year.
The largest decline in unemployment rate in the state was in the St. Louis metro area, dropping 1.5 percent from 9.8 percent to 8.3 percent.
