Unemployment falls slightly in December

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois unemployment rate fell in December for the fourth consecutive month.

According to preliminary data released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security the unemployment rate fell to 8.6-percent, its lowest rate since December 2012.

The Illinois rate is significantly higher than the U.S. unemployment rate which fell .3-percent to 6.7-percent in December.
