PEKIN, Ill. -- Tazewell County authorities are investigating the death of an East Peoria woman, who was found deceased in the Illinois River Tuesday morning.

Tazewell County Coroner Carl Powell said 26-year-old Megan N. Sibley was found approximately a half mile south of the Lick Creek entrance to the river on the Tazewell County side.

The Tazewell County Coroner’s Office, Illinois Department of Natural Resource Police, and the Illinois State Police are currently conducting an investigation into her death.

An autopsy, held this afternoon, showed Sibley died due to drowning, but toxicology studies are still pending.

An inquest will be held at a later date by Carl Powell from the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office.
