NORMAL, Ill. -- The Unit 5 School district has come up with their final solution for redistricting due to overcrowding.

Wednesday, the council approved their Redistricting Option 1A that deals with overcrowding at Cedar Ridge and Benjamin Elementary

The approved option is compromised of parents and community members' feed back.

With the new solution, the McGraw Park Subdivision will be redistricted to Northpoint.

Other areas like Wingover and Ekstam drive will now be open attendance, and students will be assigned to one of three different schools by May 1st.

"There's not really that many kids affected by it and the school board has made some concessions for us," said Philip Foree, a Benjamin Elementary parent.

"Well I don't think anybody is always satisfied," said Unit Schools Superintendent Gary Niehaus. "There's probably still some people who are unhappy with it. I think it was good that we realized we didn't have to bus them all down to Cedar Ridge, and we can divide them up between Benjamin and Cedar, and Hoose and Glen. I think those are good decisions for us and make this happen for us."

Incoming 5th graders at Benjamin can choose to remain there for the next year, and McGraw area students attending Evans Junior High can also choose to remain at their same school.
