NORMAL Ill -- Dozens of Twin City residents lounged about in Uptown Normal's round-about tonight.

It was part of Normal's first ever summer music series in the new Uptown area.

Residents had a chance to kick back and check out some local music.

Normal's own, Alex and the XO's kicked off the first night of the series.

Organizers hope the event will serve as a coming out party for their newly restructured uptown.

"They've done a great job of restructuring the Uptown," said Normal resident, Mark Detwiler. "I think is just a unique aspect that most towns do not have. I think it really sets Normal apart for having it, and I hope it becomes an even bigger attraction for them."

The event is free to the public and will be held every other Thursday in the Uptown Circle.

The series will wrap up September 5th.
