Veteran dies after jumping from car

SPARLAND, Ill. -- A local veteran is dead after jumping from a moving vehicle along Route 29 in Sparland.

Authorities say 26-year-old Zachary Crawford of Chillicothe, was the passenger in a vehicle when he jumped out of the car after a verbal exchange with the driver.

The Marshall County Coroner says Crawford was heading home from a Veteran's Affairs Clinic Friday afternoon, when the incident happened.

Authorities say he had been treated for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Crawford served in two tours of duty in Iraq.

The cause of death has been ruled massive blunt force trauma.

Marshall County Sheriff's department is investigating the incident.
