MACOMB, Ill. -- A Western Illinois University student has been arrested for his involvement in a hoax earlier this week.

Wednesday night 25-year-old Alvin Montgomery called 911 to report a man with a gun.

Police were dispatched to the area, evacuations were ordered and a search ensued for more than five hours.

Police never found a gunman and say it appears the entire incident was made up. They have charged Montgomery with making a false 911 call and attempting obstruction of justice.

Authorities are also seeking restitution for the total cost of resources used in responding to the prank call.
