PEORIA, Ill. -- A water main break on University Street between W. Glen Ave. and Shenandoah on Wednesday morning closed some businesses and caused some headaches for morning commuters.

The break happened around 5 a.m. and shut down both directions of traffic on University.

Crews working to repair the broken main told 20 local companies that service would return Wednesday night.

Some businesses chose to shut down for the day. Others, like Familia Dental used their mobile dental unit to stay open.

"We do have distilled water on hand. We have gallons of water in the back and we've called in a water truck which will be here shortly to hock up water so we can continue to see our patients,” said Kami Colgan of Familia Dental.

Another business, Joseph Construction, brought in a port-john for customers.

Illinois American Water Company has told the businesses there will be a boil order for 36 hours after the main is repaired and service is returned.

Street repair may take a week.
