PEORIA, Ill. -- Residents near the of East Lake Avenue and North New York Avenue should check their doors for boil order notifications.
A water main there broke early in that area Wednesday morning.
A spokesperson for Illinois American Water said water main breaks may become more common as temperatures rise.
"Well with our pipes being underground, temperatures do effect us. Even when its warm and we have a dry spell. The soil gets dry and shifts, then our mains can shift. So with the cold temperature our mains can fluctuate," said Karen Cotton.
Boil orders typically last for 36 hours.
