PEORIA, Ill. -- Look for work on a water main upgrade to begin in a couple of weeks at the intersection of Main and University in Peoria.
It is an $800,000 project which calls for upgrading 1,600 feet of 12-inch water main. The original pipe was installed about 100 years ago.
Illinois American Water said the upgrade will enhance fire protection and water pressure to customers and should cut down on the number of water main breaks in the area.
The last water main break in that area happened in September of last year.
Weather permitting, work is expected to begin in early March.
