PEORIA, IL -- Did you know that two key instruments in a patient's battle against Breast Cancer are blood and platelet donations?

Platelets are a clotting component of blood, used to help prevent massive blood loss post surgery.

In build up to the 28th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the Memorial Affiliate and local Red Cross chapter are hosting a weeklong blood drive.

Donations are being accepted at the Peoria Blood Center, walk-ins are welcomed, however an appointment is needed for platelet donations.
