PEORIA, Ill. -- A familiar face will be missing in downtown Peoria when the pushcart season resumes.
Sixty-four-year-old Willie Smith, owner of Willie's Tamales, died last week apparently as a result of kidney disease.
Smith not only tamales served tamales but was known for his pork chops. Smith had operated his food stands for more than twenty years both downtown and in front of the Peoria UFS store.
He will be buried in his hometown of Greenville Mississippi on Saturday.
Peirre Seraphin of UFS said Juanita Smith indicated she would continue to operate the food stand at the UFS store.
