WEST PEORIA, Ill. -- A 41-year Fourth of July tradition continued Wednesday in West Peoria.
People lined the street as the parade kicked off at 10 a.m.
Politicians along with members of the military and floats from different organizations took part.
WEEK News 25's Ashley McNamee and Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins braved the heat to wave and throw candy to the crowd.
"Everybody comes out for it no matter how hot it is and this was kind of like the preview to everybodys' Fourth of July festivities today coming to the West Peoria parade," said Meteorologist Chuck Collins.
The parade was started by Boy Scout Troop 11 in the early 70's as a patriotic salute to the nation, and has grown every year since.
