WASHINGTON, Ill -- Dozens of Woodford County 9th graders took a break from the textbooks Friday, but the learning didn't stop.
Students attended the annual Teen Jamboree program at Crossroads United Methodist Church.
The focus was on learning more about social issues they may face like peer pressure, drugs, violence, and alcohol.
ELITE Youth Outreach Director Carl Cannon spoke to students for about an hour Friday morning before breaking into small groups to discuss how to handle those issues.
One 9th grader says she hopes to take away a better understanding of making the right decisions, especially when it comes to peer pressure.
"It's really difficult because everyone wants you to do something whether you want to do it or not and you want to act cool so I'll say, but sometimes that's difficult when everyone's pressuring you to do the wrong thing," said El Paso Gridley 9th grader Madeoyn Wilson.
Students will go back to their schools and share what they learned from Friday's program and how to handle certain situations the right way.
