CHICAGO, Ill -- A new 'mega casino' could be in the works for downtown Chicago.
Illinois lawmakers met Wednesday to talk about expanding gambling in the state. One option is potentially the largest casino in the world with the capacity for 10,000 gaming positions.
Supporters say it will be a great source of untaxed revenue but opponents think it would cost the state in the end.
"The people that are going to be providing the income for these casinos are the ones that the state is going to be bailing out in every way there is," said Melinda Litchfield, reformed gambler.
Gaming revenue at the state's current casinos is down 43-percent, thanks in part to video gambling machines now allowed in bars.
A spokesman for those casinos says adding another would just water down profits even more.
