Wrestling dropped from 2020 Olympics

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND -- The IOC has dropped wrestling from the 2020 Olympics, NBC News reports.

Wrestling has been competed in every Olympics except one since 1896.

The IOC was looking to take away one sport to make room for a new sport.  Many assumed that Modern Pentathlon would be the sport to get the axe.

Wrestling isn't completely out of the picture, however.  It will now be competing against other sports that are vying for an Olympic spot, including baseball/softball,  squash, wushu, roller sports, karate, sport climbing, and wakeboarding.
