WASHINGTON, Ill. -- Cummins Family Restaurant sits just off of Washington Road and gives you a warm welcome before you even walk through the door.
This "home away from home" has become a place comfort for many customers.
"A couple of weeks ago we had one come in and she was in tears," said waitress Sheryl Maher. "They were demolishing her house that day and it was so sad."
Cummins is one of the lucky ones.
The tornado narrowly missed the restaurant and its now doing what it does best to get back to normal.
"We have lots of food made from scratch," said Maher.
"I love the hamburgers because they're made like my mom made them," said Peggy Robson, customer. "They're fresh and they have good breakfast."
In fact, its award winning.
The menu includes skillets, biscuits and gravy, waffles and grits. At lunch, the tenderloins are a hit.
And make sure to leave room for dessert. The pies are made fresh daily.
That fact must have slipped Marshanna's mind when she ordered her breakfast burrito with eggs, sausage, cheese and onions.
It comes with american fries and she added one pancake.
Eating partner Chad took a different route.
He used his knife and fork to eat his open-faced chili burger with loads of toppings and a side of coleslaw.
It turns out you can put it on chips too.
To top it all off, Marshanna and Chad shared a slice a apple pie a la mode.
With drinks, the total came to $25.06 plus tip.
