You Gotta Eat: PVII

PEORIA, Ill. -- The owners of PVII have created a refined, relaxing atmosphere for a restaurant that caters to the customer with the prompt serving of perfect flavors in a pleasant atmosphere.

"The thing that got us to pick this spot is these were our wedding colors, red and black, and so we thought that's kind of a neat little sign," owner Amy Wand said.

Maybe that's why co-owners Amy Wand and Josh Utech have created such a perfect spot for romantic meals.

This is not a restaurant meant for quick dining for people on-the-go, rather you should expect to be pampered with amiable, attentive, knowledgeable servers.

"We want it to be relaxing for people. I want it to be a night out that people enjoy and have a good time," Wand said.

My date and I agree that anyone who can cook can prepare most good meals at home, however PVII has a menu full of choices that most people would never think, or know how, to prepare.

"I've eaten a lot of pasta, and the Lobster Ravioli couldn't have been better," Bob Knapp said.

Sara and I started with soups.

I had the Lobster Bisque and Sara had the Potato Leek.

The soups were just as phenomenal as last time, and we have agreed to come back soon for more Lobster Bisque.

Chef Josh Utech prepares everything from scratch, and we were particularly pleased to hear he welcomes food restrictions or preferences.

Sara says the outstanding quality of ingredients in her Spinach Rotolo was evident, and her favorite parts of the meal were the soup, cocktail, and dessert.

I had the Pan-Seared Duck Breast, which is slow-cooked to make it especially tender, over capellini, topped with mushrooms and cream sauce.

The sauces and soups are like no other in the area, and Sara and I will also be back for the Tiramisu, which Sara says is the best she's had at a restaurant.

Our total for cocktails, wine, entrees, a Salmon Crostini appetizer, sides and dessert came to $108.04, plus tip.

This is our second date here, and as Sara put it, "The consistency between the experiences implies quality and inspires future visits."

"It's a very nice family atmosphere here," says Wand. "We try to make everybody feel the same, welcome."

PVII is at 8305 North Allen Road in Peoria.

They are open for lunch Mondays through Fridays from 11AM to 2 PM.

They serve dinner Mondays through Saturdays from 5 PM to 9PM.
