PEORIA, Ill. -- Thanh Linh at 1209 W. Main Street in Peoria is a home away from home for owner Linh Luong.
Her family came to Peoria more than 20 years ago and the community has embraced her passion for Vietnamese food ever since.
"Everything from Thanh Linh we home make, we make it fresh," she said.
It's also healthy.
There's not a lot of oil or sodium used to cook the authentic favorites like beef noodle soup, stir fry and lemon grass chicken.
"It's nice to have different options besides fast food up here, said customer Sarah Smith. "It's nice that people can learn about different cultures and try different things."
The restaurant now has three times the room of its old location just doors away.
So, everyone from Bradley students to retirees can eat comfortably.
Chad and Marshanna started their meal on a roll, with shrimp and pork spring rolls.
It's a nice delicate flavor you can eat by itself or dip in peanut sauce.
Marshanna ordered a bowl of beef and meatball noodle soup. The small is so big that she should have got the kid size.
Chad wanted a little of everything so he went for the buffet.
It's a popular lunch choice, complete with eggs rolls, stir fry, dumplings and more.
Of course, he went back for seconds and we shared a combination fried rice.
Our total with drinks came to $25.69 plus tip.
Thanh Linh is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The lunch buffet is from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. There's also a dinner buffet Friday and Saturday nights from 5 p.m to 8 p.m.
