PEORIA, Ill -- A of the day after Thanksgiving tradition in downtown Peoria is the Yule Like Peoria Holiday walk-about.

Friday evening hundreds filled the Courthouse lawn for the 21st annual event.

It started with a tree lighting ceremony around the courthouse, followed by a downtown walk-about.

About 25 businesses were open with a variety of entertainment.

Organizers said it's a great way to kick off the holiday season in downtown Peoria.

"The downtown area, we're ever changing down here, and it's great to be able to bring people down to see the different businesses down here cause a lot people don't necessarily come down here all the time. Great way to showcase the downtown area," said Vicki Barber, a Yule Like Peoria chairperson.

The downtown area was decorated for the holidays last weekend with the help of approximately 50 volunteers.
