Peoria man charged in son's death will go to trial

PEORIA, Ill. -- A trial is set for a Peoria man charged in his son's death.

In April 2013, a coroner's jury ruled the death of an 18-year-old Peoria teen a homicide.

18-year-old Darnell Hunter Jr. died February of that year at a hospital after being found unresponsive by his father in his home.

An autopsy showed Hunter Junior died of malnutrition.

Hunter's father, Darnell Hunter Sr., is charged in his son's death with involuntary manslaughter and criminal neglect of a disabled person.

Wednesday, he appeared in court. A scheduling conference is scheduled for June 6th.

His trial is set for June 16th.

If convicted, Hunter Sr. faces up to 13 years in prison.
