PEORIA, Ill. -- A two time national champion basketball team made a stop at the South Side Mission Wednesday to teach kids the value of hard work.

The Monroe College Lady Mustangs are in town for the NJAA Division II national championships.

The women's basketball team are a two-time champs, going for a third title this year.

Instead of practicing on the court Wednesday, the girls took some time to teach kids at the South Side Mission after school program some basketball tricks.

Team member said it is always important to give back to the community.

"Its not worth doing unless you can give back," said Gary Alexbank, Director of Sports Development Monroe College. "Unless you can spend a little time with young people, sharing your talents, sharing your friendliness, and giving kids a chance to aspire to be somebody better."

Along with the lesson, all of the kids were invited to Thursday night's game where the Mustangs will take on Mesa Community College.
