PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Peoria Heights Police Chief Dustin Sutton says a woman threw boiling hot water on her 5-year-old daughter out of frustration.
Tiffany Fortune, 33, was arrested for aggravated battery to a child.
The little girl is currently being treated in the burn unit of Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Police say Fortune showed remorse and changed her story when they confronted her about the child's injuries.
"At first she explained to the detective that it was an accident, that there was boiling water left on the stove and the child was unattended," said Chief Dutton. "After further discussion, she admitted to the detective that out of frustration she she'd done it deliberately."
Fortune is the single mother of four children and police say the father recently passed away.
Police say she expressed a desire for counseling during her interview.
