The Town of Normal is hoping for more sun than we saw Monday to cut down on its energy expenses.
The Children's Discovery Museum is now generating electricity with newly installed rooftop solar panels.
Federal Stimulus funds paid for the 51-thousand dollar project.
The solar panels are expected to generate more than 14-thousand kilowatt hours of energy a year.
"We are actually in the process of tying the system into an exhibit here at the museum so patrons will be able to see at any given time how much electricity is being generated by the solar panels and what impact that is having on our environment," said Assistant City Manager Geoff Fruin.
The Town of Normal, which owns and operates the museum, hopes the solar power saves between five-and-ten percent on the museum electric bill.
