New Apple iPhones hit stores

Friday was a big day for Apple as the company rolled out its newest iPhones.

Apple CEO Tim Cook got a firsthand look at customers lined up outside the company's store in Palo Alto, California early Friday morning.

 Across the country in New York, and in cities in between, the launch of the new iPhone 5s and 5c brought out Apple loyalists.

"It's not that I have to be one of the first, it's the experience," one buyer said.

CNet Senior Editor Scott Stein says the new flagship 5s will hold appeal to certain iPhone customers thanks in part to a faster processor which is 2-3 times quicker than before.

"If you go for things like, gaming, and in particular, if you use the camera a lot, those are going to be strong incentives to take a look at the 5s," Stein said.

However, maybe the most attention getting addition is "Touch ID."

That is the phone's fingerprint reader.

"Right now, it only works for passcode unlock and iTunes password storage, so it's not going to be a catch all to replace all of your passcodes or act as digital wallet yet," Stein said.

"I'm sure that's something that's being thought about. Security's a huge issue. It would be a huge coup if something like that were to work,” he said.

Apple is hoping for an immediate coup with the iPhone 5c which is priced at $99.

That is $100 less than the 5s and it is available in five colors.

With smartphone competition intensifying, Apple is hoping the new offerings will be music to customers' ears.
