BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- A Bloomington city alderman is throwing his hat in the ring to be the next Bloomington Township Supervisor.

Wednesday, Steven Purcell, the current Bloomington Ward 7 Alderman, announced he was seeking the position.

He has been alderman for Ward 7 for the past seven years.

Purcell said, "My years of Township experience has given me the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the important services this office provides. If I'm fortunate enough to be elected, I will take this experience and continue serving my community in these challenging economic times."

If Purcell wins, he will replace currently supervisor, Joe Gibson, who is retiring.
