CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- Area Democrats are ready to roll up their sleeves and reach out to voters. That's according to the Peoria County chairman, who is just back from this week's Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Billy Halstead, the Peoria County Democratic Chairman listened to speeches from Former President Bill Clinton, First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and of course, President Barack Obama among others.

He says critics who call the President's speech 'underwhelming' are wrong.

"I thought he did a fantastic job because being fortunate enough to hear the speech in 2004, which was rock solid, and really moved him forward. the acceptance speech in 2008, and of course Thursday night," said Halstead.

Halstead went on to say that the convention was an unbelievable experience. Around 400 attended a picnic Saturday to show support for the democratic ticket. 58 days remain until the election on November 6.
