Area Democrats gather for election debates

PEORIA, Ill. -- A group of area Democrats gathered together at The Lariat Steakhouse Wednesday night to watch both debates.

The watch party has become somewhat of a tradition for the Peoria County Democratic Central Committee.

It featured both the Local 46th District debate and the Presidential debate.

With more than 50 people in attendance, the county chairman said getting people excited about the election is important.

"Getting together tonight brings just a room full of enthusiasm, " said Peoria County Democratic Chairman Billy Halstead. "You see by the excitement by the people that are here that this is an important election and they're taking it serious."

Halstead said he hopes undecided voters now know the candidates better after watching the debates.
