PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria City Council election is not until next year, but some candidates are already making their voices heard.
You could call the 5th District race the 'Battle of the Dans'
Newcomer Dan Adler says he is announcing his candidacy early so people can get to know him.
The 31-year-old Caterpillar Engineer says he has lived in Peoria for six years with his wife and two young children.
Adler says he will use his creative expertise to foster economic growth and jobs.
"A lot of people kinda work and then they come home. And then, they kinda traipse back and forth," said Adler. "I'd like to create and support neighborhoods that are more active and vibrant and have businesses and industries and stuff that is already where people live."
David Adler says he has not seen a lot of creative policy-making coming off the headlines from Incumbent Dan Irving.
But Irving maintains his Council record is one to build on.
"We are going to be working with and partnering with the Department of Transportation on the Allen Road corridor," said Irving. "We're working through the final designs of that project. Also gonna be working on Radnor road and we're trying to find ways to get the Pioneer Parkway extension jump started so that we're prepared for the future growth of Peoria Notre Dame High School."
Residents of the 5th District will have a lot of time to study the 'two Dans'
The Consolidated Primary Election is in late February, and the Consolidated General election is next April.
