He is now calling on the Senate to pass the Mental Health ACCESS Act.
The bill would improve the Department of VA counseling, suicide prevention, and mental health staffing, as well as extend service eligibility to family members.
Durbin spoke on the Senate Floor on Tuesday calling attention to the 1 percent - not the wealthy but the Americans who fight to defend us.
"We also need to step forward as well,” said Durbin. “And make sure that we go beyond welcoming home parades for Veteran's, and find them a job. Parades are just fine. But if you really want to support a Veteran, hire that Veteran. Give that Veteran a job."
