BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Bloomington City Council has approved adding the Central Illinois Regional Airport to the city's enterprise zone.
The enterprise zone gives developers an exemption from state sales tax on building materials.
Now that FedEx is looking to build a $5 million sorting and distribution center the airport says the incentive will attract more businesses and create a lot of jobs.
"There is a lot of interest from companies that want to be on airport properties and do have a tie in or need to have access to flights, either their own airplanes or others as well," said Bloomington City Manager David Hales.
Before the enterprise expansion can happen, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Department of Revenue also have to approve the change.
