PEORIA, Ill -- Democratic State Senator Dave Koehler has represented Illinois' 46th state senate district for six years. Now, he is seeking another four year term.
Dave Koehler moved to Peoria in 1978. In the early 80's he started a 6 year stint on the Peoria County board, followed by 8 years on the Peoria City Council. In 2002 Koehler helped George Shadid with his election to the state senate and in 2006 when Shadid decided against re-election Koehler ran and was elected to the seat.
"I do enjoy what I'm doing in spite of the the tough times and the tough decisions," said State Senator Dave Koehler (D).
Senator Koehler said as a public figure you have to take the good with the bad. He says two years ago the legislature cut $2 billion from the state's budget and cut another $1.6 billion last year.
"Right now it's a very tough time to be in government, but it's also a very important time," said Senator Koehler, "We have probably done more reform in the past two years because of the crisis that we're in than any other period in state's history."
Senator Koehler believes his experience and the relationships he has built will continue to bring results in Springfield, bring jobs in Central Illinois, and let him help his constituents in the 46th district.
"When you can help people solve problems, whether it's a business whether it's an individual, that's what you're there for. That's why I choose to be a state senator, I choose to run," he said.
