PEORIA, Ill -- Despite record low turn-out during Tuesday's primary election, the candidate for Peoria City 5th district councilman Casey Johnson says he is pleased with the outcome.
Johnson tied incumbent councilman Dan Irving. They each received 284 votes, or about 44-percent. They will face off in the April 9th consolidated election.
Johnson believes his background with non-profit work and volunteering will serve him well on the council.
"My passion for the city is evident in the things that we have done in the non-profit sector. I'm doing it because I want to continue to have impact. Some of the organizations I've worked with are highly impactful to the community, and I figure what better way to have impact on the community than help with policy and helping move the city in the direction we want to see it go," he said.
Johnson said he was missing at least one vote yesterday. Due to recent re-districting he currently resides in the 4th district, about a quarter-mile from the 5th district line.
If elected, he has three years to move into the 5th district, but Johnson believes that move would be sooner.
