GALESBURG, Ill. -- Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, was in Galesburg Tuesday explaining her vote against a House budget plan last week.
The 17th District Democrat said the budget plan presented last Thursday made too many changes in Medicaid, but also took money from Headstart programs.
Touring the Knox County Head Start, Bustos said that budget would have cut 170,000 children from Headstart programs.
"For every one dollar we invest in this program, there's a seven dollar return," Bustos said. "I think that's pretty hard to beat, and when you look at the kids, and how well they're developing and preparing to go into kindergarten, this is a program that hardly can be beat."
Bustos, a so-called "Blue-Dog Democrat" has been pushing bipartisanship in Washington, D.C.
