PEORIA, Ill. -- 17th district representative Cheri Bustos is among 20 lawmakers who tried unsuccessfully to convince House Speaker John Boehner to remain in session until a budget deal is reached.
Bustos was in Peoria Monday for two events. She was the speaker at Bradley University's "Women in Leadership " luncheon and the Peoria County Democrats' Presidents Day Dinner.
The freshman Congresswoman said across the board cuts would be devastating to families and agencies across the country.
"Cuts like to head start, I think that's unconscionable to look at cutting any place in education at a time that that's where we should be investing in. I have a hard time with the way this whole thing has been approached," she said.
Congress will reconvene next week with just four days to agree on a deal to avoid those across the board budget cuts.
