PEORIA, Ill. -- As the city of Peoria begins its budget process, council members voiced their support for an idea to that would put $1.5 million in unused project funds back into the respective districts.
Several funds for city projects have remained unused since 2005.
At the council meeting Tuesday night, 2nd District Councilman Chuck Grayeb recommended the council allocate that money into infrastructure and community development projects within each district.
The council voted unanimously in favor of the idea, which will be tied in with their upcoming budgeting for 2014.
"Our districts have been neglected not through the fault of any particular set of people, but because we have had some very bad things happen," said Grayeb. "Now it is time to reprogram the money and use the money to fill the needs in each of our districts."
Council members said they are looking at a $3 million budget deficit heading into 2014.
